Case Study: Kontakt-Simon — transporting small platforms with the Smart Pile 500/300 robot
The Kontakt-Simon AGV implementation is one of Myzer's longer-developing relationships — the first automated transport concepts date back to 2020, and a subsequent proposal concerned robots from the Diet Tugger and Smart Pile families in the 500/300 version. It is an example of how the choice of robot follows directly from the size and weight of the load being carried.
Context: manufacturing electrical fittings
Kontakt-Simon manufactures electrical installation fittings — switches, sockets and accessories. These are small products made in large batches, where internal transport handles the flow of small platforms and containers between production cells and picking zones. The load here is light, but the traffic is very frequent.
The transport challenge
When mainly small platforms are being carried, a heavy under-ride robot with a high load capacity can be oversized. What is needed is a manoeuvrable unit that can cope in a confined space, pull or push a small platform, and do so efficiently enough to keep pace with the production of small components.
The Kontakt-Simon AGV implementation — Smart Pile for small platforms
For transporting small platforms measuring 600×800, the Smart Pile 500/300 robot was proposed. The unit works with a platform fitted with four swivel castors and a handle, pulling or pushing a load weighing up to 300 kg. The robot uses new-generation 850 W motors and lithium-ion batteries, giving it the manoeuvrability and dynamics suited to frequent, short transport runs.
The solution is complemented by standard safety features and automatic charging, so that the robot works in a repeatable loop without operator intervention.
- Smart Pile 500/300 for transporting small 600×800 platforms.
- Works with a platform on four swivel castors, pulling or pushing loads of up to 300 kg.
- New-generation 850 W motors and lithium-ion power supply.
- A solution matched to light but very frequent material traffic.
