Case Study: Whirlpool — Automating Trolley Transport with All in One and Diet Robots

The Whirlpool AGV implementation developed over several years and across several plants — from Wroclaw to Radomsko — covering both the All in One 1000 under-ride platform and the lighter robots of the Diet family for trolley transport. It is an example of gradual automation of internal transport in the production of home appliances.

Background: home appliance production

Whirlpool is a global manufacturer of home appliances, with assembly plants in Poland. Lines of this kind require a constant supply of components to workstations and the collection of finished sub-assemblies. Here, internal transport links the warehouse, assembly and material preparation areas, and every workstation expects its delivery at the right moment.

The transport challenge

In a home appliance plant, what is moved is often not a single load but entire trolleys — for example carrying panels or housing walls. When done manually, such transport is repetitive and takes up the time of operators who could be performing tasks that require decisions. The aim was to hand over fixed, predictable routes to a robot.

The Whirlpool AGV implementation — from the platform to Diet robots

For different scenarios, a robot from the All in One series 1000 was proposed for transporting loads on the platform, together with lighter units from the Diet 500 family designed for moving trolleys — including trolleys carrying housing walls. The robot configuration (mouse with a pin, tow tractor, front or side panel) was matched to the specific task on the shop floor.

The robots carry out a repetitive transport mission in a loop, with auto-charging and standard safety features, so they fit into the rhythm of the line without any additional attendance.

  • All in One 1000 — an under-ride platform for transporting loads.
  • Diet 500 robots for moving trolleys, including trolleys carrying housing walls.
  • Robot configuration matched to the specific task (pin, tow tractor, front/side panel).
  • Operation in a repetitive loop with auto-charging.

The full case study with data and video footage is coming soon to the Academy. You will find more about under-ride robots and their configurations in the AGV and AMR robots category.
